Choosing the right tie and shirt combination, 9 Rules of choosing the right combo: Shirt and Matching Tie
For the perfect gentleman look, everything should go hand in hand with the other. The style and coloring of one should blend with the other giving rise to a new classy combination. At times, it becomes really very confusing for man to choose the right shirt and tie combo. For any particular occasion where you need to be formally dressed, your whole dressing sense go haywire if you select the wrong combo. Presenting some golden rules for choosing the right tie and shirt combination.
Select the suit, then the shirt, and at last the tie
Start with the the suit, and place in on the bed. Then choose a shirt and drape it under the jacket. Now choose a suitable tie and place it on the shirt. Always use this order: from large to small.
Give attention to different patterns
Dont think that if you have a striped suit, striped shirt, you need to wear a striped tie. It won’t work. The same applies to checked patterns. A one-colour shirt would look good. On the other hand, the same color like blue suit, blue shirt, plain blue tie all over would look bad. In such a case the tie should add some color to it and a more lively color should be chosen. Keep this in mind.
Dont play much with colors
Ties in almost every color go with a blue suit and light blue shirt. Blue allows almost every possibility. If you wear a blue suit with a white shirt, then avoid flashy colors because there is already the contrast of blue and white. The ideal color combination for suit, shirt and tie is when the colors harmonize and the color contrast is well.
Two different stripes or Two different checks
A striped shirt with a striped tie can go together quite nicely if the stripes are of different sizes. This also applies to a striped suit and shirt. Thus always combine wide stripes with narrow stripes and never two of the same or similar kind. In check pattern, the checks need to be different as possible in shape and size.

Two different patterns
In case of two different patterns, the size should possibly be the same as for larger and medium-sized patterns. For smaller designs one should avoid two different patterns at all. Thus, a wide-striped shirt and a tie with a large pattern will make a match.
Three different patterns
Suit with herringbone design, checked shirt and striped tie does not work. But here when the proportion of the patterns are similar it can work as well. But that would be quite daring and is not necessarily recommended.
Two or three of the same kind
Two pieces of clothing with stripes and one with checks or vice versa works. Here also the pieces of the same kind need to differ in size, and the third pattern has to adapt to the dominating piece, which is usually the suit.
Three of the same kind
First wide stripes or checks should be combined with small or middle-sized stripes or checks, and finally an ideal color combination has to be found. This is the choice for somebody who likes to take a chance and has a big closet.
The easiest rule
If you do not have a large budget for your wardrobe or if you are unsure what clothes to choose, or how to combine them, keep it simple. Be thrifty with patterns for suits and buy mostly solid colored shirts. You will get the contrast through colored and patterned ties.
